Word: Interactive Writing
Definition: A writing process used to teach (usually younger) students how to write. The process involves the sharing of a pen between the teacher and students.
Visual Cue:
Importance: It is important because the students follow the teachers lead and by doing this the student advances far more than if they were using their own pen and paper.
Word: High Frequency Words
Definition: Words which occur most frequently in written material. Words such as "the", "as", "and", "but", and "it".
Visual Cue:
Importance: High frequency words are important for beginning readers to be able to identify because they will encounter them in nearly 75% of EC reading materials.
Word: Orthography
Definition: the way in which the words of a language are spelled
Visual Cue:
Importance: Orthography is important because if it did not exist, there would be confusion when communicating.
Word: Word solving
Definition: The process of using a series of phonological strategies in order to arrive at the appropriate meaning of a word.
Importance: This is an essential skill for students to develop in order to become efficient independent readers
